OUR STORY
"PROVIDING PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT TO THOSE IN NEED IS NOT A SPRINT, IT'S A MARATHON"
Individuals who suffer from poverty, illness, insecure housing and sanitation, and domestic violence are especially vulnerable to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Million Mask Marathon works to supply personal protective equipment to these individuals as a way to support them during this difficult time.
The Million Mask Marathon started from a small Facebook page with the goal of supporting Rosie's Place, a women's shelter in Boston, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal was to make and donate face masks to help the women protect themselves and their families. The organization quickly grew and soon was able to donate 300 masks to the women and children at Rosie's Place. Driven by the desire to address the lack of personal protective equipment experienced by many charities, shelters, and hospitals, the Million Mask Marathon expanded to offer donations to multiple organizations that support individuals at most risk. Thanks to the generous support of volunteers, over 1,000 masks were donated across the world.

As research on mask effectiveness grew, the Million Mask Marathon began including nylon stockings with their donations. Wearing the nylons over the face mask dramatically decreases the transmission of airborne particles, such as the COVID-19 virus. Instructions and pictures on how to wear the nylons were included with each donation to increase awareness and effectiveness. The Million Mask Marathon was recently able to partner with The Hanes Company to increase the number of nylons donated and ensure the most comfortable and effective material is being used.

Providing care to those in most need, and recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic is a challenge that takes time and effort, but can be accomplished through generosity and dedication. Access to personal protective equipment is an important place to start, and together we can finish this marathon.
